## Job Description
THIS IS A RESTRICTED POSITION WHICH IS SOLELY FUNDED BY THE HIV PREVENTION AND CONTROL GRANT FOR A ONE YEAR PERIOD ENDING JANUARY 01, 2019. THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING IS SCHEDULED FOR REVIEW BEFORE THE GRANT EXPIRATION DATE AND PERIODICALLY THEREAFTER. EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON THE CONTINUED AVAILABILITY OF THE GRANT.
The Hampton Health Department is seeking a Healthcare Technician to provide healthcare support for professional medical and nursing staff by following a protocol, policy, procedure or order from a licensed provider. Duties consist of the following routine clinical tasks: collection of laboratory specimens, electronic specimen processing, performing adult and adolescent venipuncture and performing clinical laboratory tests to include but not limited to hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, urine dipsticks. Sterilize instruments; inventories and order supplies; maintain logs, files and records; collects clinical data and complies statistics. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed provider.
## Minimum Qualifications
Must be skilled in checking vital signs in adults, and children and in obtaining lab specimens for testing; performing vision and hearing tests; have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population both orally and in writing strong interpersonal communication skills; knowledge of infection control procedures; ability to create and maintain records and compile and produce reports; and ability to exercise good judgment in carrying out responsibilities. Evidence of specific training in performing specialized duties and functions based on area of assignment is required. Must have Nursing Assistant Certification and Phlebotomy Certification or completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program required. Must be CPR certified and will be required to maintain a valid driver s license and adhere to VDH s Driver Safety Policy.
## Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications consist of a High School Graduate or GED, Phlebotomy experience and prior Public Health experience is also preferred. Recent experience in a busy outpatient clinic setting. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
## Special Requirements
Conviction information ascertained through a fingerprint-based background check is the final step in the application process. Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions.
