Intensive Law & Trial allows students to immerse themselves in the theory and practice of law and to develop a roadmap to becoming a lawyer. At this 10-day program scholars are exposed to the practice of law, legal rhetoric, and ethics from preeminent legal professionals, including Stanford LawSchool professors. They develop and practice essential legal skills such as making impactful opening and closing arguments, preparing cases, and readying witnesses for cross-examinations. In a fascinating simulation endorsed by the American Mock Trial Association, scholars prepare for a court case, just as any attorney doesthey practice the art of creating effective opening and closing statements, directly examine and cross examine witnesses, gain an understanding of evidence and its integrity, and learn how to manage a courtroom. Powerful skills workshops will help you develop your own personal mission statement to set and attain your future academic and career goals. Intensive Law & Trialcan help students better understand what they might want to study in college and which schools make the most sense for them. Intensive Law & Trial can also help hone leadership abilities to be more effective in college, career and life. Our field staff will be living and working onsite at Stanford University. You can anticipate being \"on call\"/available 24/7, though working hours will typically be from approximately 7am through 11pm. Contract dates vary, but this program runs from June through August. POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Advisor The Advisor is responsible for providing the best experience possible for all participants of the program through facilitation of educational curricula. Advisors help shape the experience for the students, acting as teachers and mentors to their students. The Advisor must be able to interact with and supervise students and provide for their safety and well-being. Advisors report to the Education Lead. Advisors work with a team of 15-20 other Advisors and staff and are responsible for working directly with a group of 20-25 students. Advisors are expected to perform the following duties: Directly facilitating approximately 40 hours of curriculum throughout the session Managing the classroom Briefing and debriefing lectures and activities Acting as a mentor and guide Responding to and addressing student concerns Conducting regular attendance checks to ensure safety and accountability Setting individual and group expectations and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct to ensure that these expectations are met Being on-call 24 hours per day while the program is in session and actively engaging with students during scheduled working hours (typically 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily) Requirements Knowledge and experience within the field of Law & Trial (Mock Trial) Bachelors level education; Masters or higher is preferred Previous experience working with high school students Experience facilitating curriculum and managing a classroom Strong logistical and organization skills Ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems Maturity and professionalism Excellent customer service skills Strong leadership skills Ability to set expectations for and enforce appropriate student behavior
